Hi everyone
Hope you had a great thanksgiving
We are on our way home from a great 3 week trip
pulled into rest area north bound I 75 near Dayton
and had a loud squealing noise and the engine labored when we idle down and stopped
upon inspection I found the flan blade assembly was loose and looks like the serpintine belt is wrapped around the hub assembly
found this out by looking through the bedroom access hatch
the question is does anyone have experience in working on this and how to do it
I have a mobile heavy repair coming in the morning help us
I have used this company before with other coach issues
but that is another funny story
any thoughts
thanks
Ray

Well you either just lost the serpentine belt, the bearing for the fan which in your case is a sealed bearing failed or you have a problem with the tensioner. You need to cut the belt out then spin the fan and tensioner. If they both spin free replace the belt but my guess is on an 07 it is not just a belt problem.

How many miles. After the belt is replaced if the hub wobbles or squals, as stated above, the fan bearing is normally bad. The Cat C7 has a sealed bearing and are they noted for failure at about 30,000 miles.

Call the Cat help line and ask for their assistance in repair costs, they know it's a problem and usually cover most of the cost the first time around.

The replacement can be tough depending on access on your particular coach.

We are back together to nite
Fan Hub Bearing let go only the races were left on our C7 Cat with less than 16000 miles on engine
as mentioned we were lucky to get shut down in time to prevent radiator and air to air damage
to all tuscany owner with C7 Cat engines
this repair requires removal of the rads to access the problem
do not fool around trying to do it any other way it is a waste of mechanic's time
our parts bill was the serpentine belt which I had on board a water pump belt ( which you should replace when you do this repair because you have to pull the rads to replace it also) plus the bearing for the hub.
our fan and other parts were ok
parts were less than $165.00
labor was 18 hrs plus service call at a shop rate of $80/hr
there was no charge for the Saturday work plus we avoided being towed in by limping to the repair center
My Recommendation is to carry both belts and the bearing on board
we got lucky and found a bearing close by
we are headed home to Ontario in the morning
this will be our third 23' night here in the Dayton area
the previous were quite windy
so far by running water heater and furnace at 63' we have been able to stay non frozen
thanks for the help
our air chuck in the front would not air up our suspension
freightliner rv hotline says the proper way is using the fitting on the air dryer
we did not need it so we did not try this method

Glad to hear you are back on the road. Was any of this covered by an extended warranty or was it all out of pocket expense?
