The wife and I have been looking at DP's for over a year. I have lurked around forums and have read many threads about motorhomes. It seems like it is always the same old story, "better get Newmar or Tiffin, maybe Winnie." Or the other one I like is "get an old Foretravel". Everyone raves about Tiffins service and going to the factory in Alabama. Seems to me that if the Tiffin product is so darned good why are people always taking their coaches to the factory? The wife and I neither one care for the Newmar or Tiffin products. We narrowed our search to Winnebago and Thor/Damon products. We think that Winnie and Thor have much better made interiors than the other two. What we don't understand is why Thor/Damon seem to get such a bad rap? We are very proud of our new to us 2004 Damon Escaper and are glad to be part of the Damon family.

Do what you want, I am just stating my opinion. I still like Tiffin, I don't think anybody in the price range can beat them . No matter how much you pay for a coach, from time to time you may have to replace something, even on the million dollar coaches.

I thought this was the Damon forum? If I wanted to hear from the Tiffin owners I would have posted on the Tiffin forum.

I have a Damon Tuscany, and it is wonderful. For me it was all about the
interior layout, functionality, overall quality, and appearance. Nobody can
say anything bad about the Freightliner chassis and Cummins diesels either.

How interesting

I read any/all new posts and sometimes comment. I own a National RV. Are you telling me I can only read/post the National RV forum

I have learned, and hope to continue to learn, from ALL the forums.

Nope, I am not telling you anything. Take what you need and leave the rest. Apparently you don't have anything to say about the original question. What are you going to learn? If you like to read then read. Why bother to post? I assumed, which I should never do, that the Damon owners could shed more light on the subject matter.

Randco, if you reread your own statement, you don't have a question to be answered. Your mind is made up. If you want feedback on Thor reputation, do you think you'll get it from happy Damon owners or should you open it up to feedback on Thor, as asked. I personally do not know of a bad Damon rap, as you state.

But, based on the above comments, you probably don't want any Winnebago owner's input either------

Best,

Best,
Actually, all comments are welcome as long as they refer to the original question. Why Thor/Damon products seem to get such a bad rap? This thread is not intended to alienate anyone. I just assumed that the Damon owners may know.

Just as a reminder, iRV2 members are welcome to post to any forum.

If an OP requests specifically that they would only like to hear the views of folks who own a particular brand at this time it should be made clear. Simply posting to a particular owners forum doesn't restrict the replies.

To answer your very first question as to why Tiffen owners take the MH's to the factory:

My dad once owned a very expensive for the times Newell. They travelled all over the country and every year they would take their coach to the Newell plant for service. Where better to get service than the place they make them. I also remember when Airstream was still making MH's you could schedule service to be done at their plant. All these things have need of periodic maintenance and some owners prefer to have it done at the factory and at the same time watch the newer units being made. It's also vauable for the manufacturer to see and hear first hand what they need to improve.

I actually think Thor products are good and was glad to see them buy out the Airstream MH business and then kill it. The later models were giving Airstream a bad name in my opinion.

I agree with Wildtoad about factory maintenance, I take my Tuscany to Gaffney, SC
for Freightliner service each year. All the service techs used to work on the
assembly line, and they really know the chassis !

Thanks to all that replied. I hope all of you enjoy your time on the road as much as I think we will. We will pick up our coach today and bring it home for the first time. I am already planning to replace a 6 tires with some new Toyo's. I have an appointment next week to have a Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain tow bar and baseplate installed on our 2004 Buick Rendezvous. We are also having a Remco lube pump installed so that we can tow four down.In the upcoming weeks my wife wants to take the RV Driver Confidence Course at LazyDays in Seffner, Florida. The course is free to people that purchase the vehicles from them. The cost is $75 for a single or $99 for both of us. I am planning to take the course with my wife. So, in few weeks we should be able to start our travels. Perhaps one day our path's will cross. Until then, Happy Trails to all...
