I'm thinking of installing a Winegard Trav'ler antenna on my '06 Daybreak. If anyone else has done this I'd appreciate their insights.

How is it attached to the roof?

Where on the roof?

Are there any pre-installed cables by Damon?

I haven't gotten the antenna yet, in fact, I'm kinda researching the how-to part to decide if I want to tackle it. My son is an installer for a Dish Network dealer in sticks-n-bricks homes, so I'm not worried about getting things hooked up correctly as much as I am about physically mounting the hardware properly.
Thanks,
Scott

The installation of a Satellite dish is not as difficult as most dealers make it seem. In fact they are quite simple. I'm sure you have been to the Winegard web site, if not here is the link to the installation manual: http://winegard.com/kbase/upload/245...avler_3005.pdf

Your Daybreak "should" have been pre-wired with at least one coax thru the roof. Have you attempted to locate it? They usually place them directly above the in-house selector switch (also probably a Winegard product). You may have to look from behind the selector switch to determine if Damon ran a Coax toward the ceiling. If not, you may have to. The selector switch should have an input for the Satellite feed. That coax then goes direct to the roof unit. Most of the new dishes allow for two cables to be connected to the unit. This provides the ability to use two receivers. One at each TV (that is if you have only two TVs) However, they selector switch only accepts one. The selector switch then allows you to send that signal to the appropriate TV. The next dilemma is do you wish to watch different channels on separate TV's at the same time? If so, you may wish to add a multi-switch. This will allow you to send the single coax signal to multiple receivers, thus eliminating the need for the two coax cables from the roof unit. This may be sounding to complex, however I'm sure to your son it is daily routine. As far as the location to mount on the roof, just use good sound judgment. It needs to have ample room to raise, lower and rotate (as explained in the installation manual) It also should not be to close to other utilities on your roof, i.e A/C units roof vents, etc. Most are located near the Coax entry point which tends to be in the center section of the roof. No matter where you locate it, it will always seems like it is in the wrong position when you are parked in an RV park with a lot of trees This product is excellent for using on the roof as sealant around the screws that you use to mount to the roof: Dicor - The Components RVs are Born With It comes in a tube that fits into an ordinary caulking gun. Use stainless screws if possible.

I hope this has been some help, feel free to ask more questions if needed.

Thanks for the reply Jars. I'll plan to get the Dicor sealant. I haven't yet foraged around to find that coax cable but my son reports seeing one when he installed our sat receiver, LCD TV and Bose sound. I've heard that it may be accessible through a vent cap on the roof, and I notice that there is one just forward of the front A/C unit but I haven't checked it yet. I'm a little concerned about where to drill holes in the roof. Is the Trav'ler held on with screws simply lagged through the membrane of the roof into whatever material is beneath it? How deep dare I drill and how long of a screw can I get away with? The instructions for the Trav'ler stated to "used the included hardware" but since I haven't yet bought it I don't know what they provide. They also advise to "contact the manufacturer" to make sure they'll be OK, so I may give Damon a call anyway when we get ready to do it.

Thanks again,
Scott
