Live on LI, and was interested in taking a trip down to DisneyWorld end of January, or beg. of Feb.
I am a "newbie", so this will be our first winter. Not sure what to do about winterizing, especially with the trip in January.
I'm sure others have encountered this.
Any suggestions??

I really don't do anything other than make sure my tanks, water and holding are empty. I keep the MH plugged in at home and put a couple of 1500 watt ceramic heaters in to keep the interior temps up above freezing. Opening the cabinet doors so the warm air flows around the plumbing. Works for me in Virginia anyway.

Well.. When I have to I have to. proper winterize involves blowing out the water lines (Air pressure set to 45PSI) draining the Ice Maker lines and water heater, draining all tanks and putting anti-freeze in all the traps.

However there is an easier way.

Lake Havasu AZ gets an average of ZERO freezing nights every year.

Hi Sumar, I'm in the Columbus, Ohio area. What I did last year & what I will do this year is winterize in November drain the water, blow out the lines, and add RV antifreeze. When I get ready to leave, I park in driveway overnight, turn on frig and furnace (about 60 degrees). I leave fairly early in the am in order to get to the Nashville area. I then de winterize the rig, add fresh water, etc. If it's warm when I leave here I'll add fresh water here. Hope this helps. Harry

Thanks everyone for the tips...
Matt...what amperage do you need to plug in a few space heaters? My rig needs 50 amp, and right now my house doesn't have that(?)

John...best idea yet about Lake Havasu...

lionel, sounds good, if you fill up on the way I guess its when you stop at a cg overnight?
And are you a train enthusiast??

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm a newbie who never had any kind of camper, so its all new to me.
Sue

Sumar,

Yes to both questions. I put water in the fresh water tank at the first campground, sanitized the system, drained and then put about 30 gal or so in in for the trip. Have an o guage (mainly Lionel) layout always under construction in the basement. Harry

Thanks Harry for the input.
And sorry this is "off topic", but my husband has "G" guage in backyard, and "O" layout ,also under construction in basement.

Sumar, Not a problem with being off topic. I've been thinking of a G in the back yard as well. We spent a month at Valle del Oro in Mesa last winter The guys were putting in a large "G scale" in the park. Worth a look if you get near. Also, fwiw, you don't need 50amp service to plug in the RV. The 50 amps is the max, and most standard home outlets are 15 or 20 amps so that's the most you can use without tripping the house breaker. Just need a 50 to 15 adapter for your electrical plug - about $65 at CW. Also, fwiw, I know a lot of folks in the south can use the space heaters for winterizing. You have to be careful up north - if you have a power outage and the pipes have water, you will have mess and $$ problems. Harry

Thanks Harry...I understand about the amperage now. And the "winterizing" seems to make sense too.
I'll tell my husband about Valle del Oro, and maybe if we get out that way we'll go take a look.
