I dry camped for 3 days on the 4th of July weekend in Louisiana with temperatures around 100 degrees each day. I used the generator for 72.5 hours. (Yes I shut it off to check the oil each day). Both AC,s and Satelite TV were on the entire time. The heat from the Onan 5.5 KW generator under dinnette and slideout could be felt on the floor after 1st day and the heat from the generator heated up my fresh water tank next to the generator compartment. We took cold water only showers that were hotter than using hot water mix. The generator fan blew the hot air under the rig and could be felt on the other side under the door. I opened the generator compartment door to help let some of the heat out. I know you cannot take the front cover off the generator because it will over heat the generator.
Anyway, the generator worked fine and I am going to get some Dynamat insulation and insulate the generator compartment roof and sides and the fresh water compartment sides.
By the way, I filled up the RV with gas 3.5 miles from the camp site and 3 days later returned to the same gas pump. I used 51 gallons of gas. The generator consummed approximately 50 of those gallons. So the generator consummed .689 gallons per hour and used 3/4 of a quart of oil.
