2008 Mandalay Presidio

My brother in law just bought a 2008 Mandalay Presidio with three slides. One slide is out and won't retract. The other two are in and won't extend. The dealer he bought it from told him the pump is bad and ordered a new one, to be installed soon. Could there be other problems or issues he needs to know about. The dealer agreed to replace the pump and bleed the system. Should they flush the system at the same time, or perform other maintenance in conjunction with replacing the hydraulic pump. He is hoping the pump is the only problem. Could other valves be involved? Thanks. He will soon join IRV2 but until then, I will be the point of contact.

Are you sure the pump is the problem? Sounds more like the pump motor could be bad. Has he tried to retract/extend the slides manually? Can you hear the pump running? If not, it may just be a low battery. There is a good troubleshooting section at Equalizersystems.com. More information would be helpful.
If it is in fact the motor, it can be replaced without changing/draining the hydraulic fluid. No valves are affected either. If it's the pump, then yes, the fluid must be drained and lines bled.

To answer your question, there are no gotchas, as far as I know, concerning problems to be aware of. All motorhomes have failures. It's to be expected. I have not had any unusual or abnormal problems with my Presidio.

You were correct. The dealer replaced the motor. The tech told my B-I-L the motor burned out. He said that the motor has a 6 minute operating cycle with a 30 minutes cooling period. It could have been caused by overuse at an RV show when it was for sale. My B-I-L will be joining IRV2 soon. I will have him contact you if he needs additional Presidio information, since you are an owner. When I bought my Winnebago Journey, I'd have been lost without the help of current owners. IRV2 is so valuable to the RV community.
