2012 ACE Stereo Amplifier Location

I can't hear the radio/stereo very well when driving down the road in my 2012 Thor ACE 29.2 . . . so I crank it up.

If you are sitting on the sofa, your ears will start to bleed because I have it cranked up so much to hear over the engine noise. I wish Thor put speakers in the dashboard so I wouldn't have to crank up the "front" sofa speakers so much.

So, I am going to install some dashboard speaker myself. I am thinking about some type of surface mount box speaker. I may upgrade to in-dash speakers later.

I have the Jensen VR209TP head unit with camera stuff in my ACE. The wiring diagram online indicates there is a amp connector for the speakers. So where is the amplifier? I am going to need to inspect that amplifier to see if it will allow me to add more speakers easily.

If not, then I will need to splice into one of the overhead sofa/dinnette speakers. . . or add another amplifier. . . or replace the entire head unit with something better than the crappy Jensen.

Does anyone know where the amplifier is on the ACE?

I don't think there is an amp, there is an amp connector, but I don't think there is an amp. The amp connector is a standard deal on stereo's is a specific connector designed to trigger the amp and provide the signal.

I went ahead with a pair of 3 1/2" speakers up front. You are 100% correct, you can't hear the stereo at all up front without having to blast out the entire coach. I just spliced into the rear bedroom speaker for the new front ones. We never use the rear/bedroom speakers, I may just disconnect them all together.

What about going another route. Address the sound issue. I installed this stuff on the underside of my engine cover and it made a big difference. I can now have a conversation without yelling while driving. This is Dynamat copy at half the cost. You can buy this in 10-25-50-and 100 square feet quantities, sticks good, just use a roller and 6 inch strips to stick it to the underside of the engine compartment cover.

Hmm. Guess I'll crawl under there tonight and check it all out. It didn't dawn on me to put Dynamat on the engine cover. I haven't even figure out how to take that thing off yet. LOL

Good Idea Scott. I already added the speakers up front, but still would not mind cutting down on the noise. Think I will scout it out and come up with a plan to try it.

Thanks!
