ACE Water Pump and City Water Leak

My fresh water tank started to over flow this week at the cap.

The tank was filling because the diaphragm inside the pump was leaking. Rather than installing a $6 directional flow valve, a pump diaphragm tear allows the city water to overfill the fresh water tank.

I'm now running only the fresh water tank and pump until I replace the water pump next week. I'm also installing a one-way flow valve to keep this from happening in the future.

i thought the water pump was on the outlet side of the tank and not inline with the fill line. how is the bad pump filling the tank when hooked up to city water? the directional valve will be hooked up before the pump? i need some coffee this early morning.

I was thinking the same thing. But I just finished my coffee. I get it. When the city water is on there is pressure on the outlet side if the pump. If the diaphragm in the pump tears the water will reverse flow into the tank.
I don't understand that if the diaphragm has a tear, how is it working now?

It is disconnected from city water and I use the pump and fresh water tank.

Next week, I'll get the new pump.
