Chateau Oil Change?

We bought a 26' Chateau new in Feb, 2014. Has 7500 mi already as we are on our way to Alaska. Would like to know if the manual is being truthful. It says no oil change til the light comes on. Waiting for it, but not happened yet. Any RECO on this situation?

Should we wait for the idiot light or change the oil now? Has the new Chevy 6 litre engine in it and it says it's got a computer to figure when things need done. Not wanting to ruin the engine, and want to follow warranty and manual and wait for the light. Says we have 600mi to get the oil changed when it comes on. Oil use indicator says have 79% oil life left. How true are the indicators and idiot lights in new vehicles?

Welcome to IRV2!

I would definitely not wait. I like to see a first oil change on any new vehicle at under 5K. Years ago it was even shorter. There can be left over assembly lube, gasket material, machining debris, all manner of things caught in the filter during that first OCI (oil change interval).

I also would not run any oil over six or seven thousand without doing an oil analysis so you have a baseline of TBN additive package consumption. I would also encourage use of a high TBN full synthetic for any extended OCI, like Rotella T6, Mobil 1, Amsoil, Redline, etc.

My manual for our Challenger on F53 Ford chassis states oil interval at 7500 miles. That's what I use as a guide. I usually change earlier than that. I wouldn't wait for the light even though you maybe safe. you are carrying more weight on a MH chassis.
