City water fills fresh water tank

Good morning all, We have a 2016 Hurricane 34F and when I hook up city water it feeds water into the fresh water tank. The water pump seems to located under the bed, at least by the sound of it running. It all works as it should except for the water going into the fresh tank. There must be some type of automatic valve somewhere that detects using city or fresh water. What is that called and where might it be located and can a fairly handy man replace it? Thanks for your help.

Check valve. Check your check valve. It's what keeps water from going backwards when hooked up to city water. Some manufacturers rely solely on the check valve built into the water pump, and some add an external one. Look on the water tubes immediately after the pump.

Thanks for the information. I'll look around the pump area.

If you coach has an Anderson Brass four Way valve to control the fresh water system they are notorious for leaking internally and causing this issue.

This is what caused mine. I emailed Anderson and they sent me a new valve at no cost.

I had this EXACT same problem with my 2014 Hurricane just three months ago.
My symptoms: 1) Anytime the fresh water hose had water flowing through it, the tank was filling. Didn't matter what position the knob was in. Tank would fill and overflow spilling water all over the ground, 2) with all sink faucets closed and toilets not used, the water pump would run for about two seconds, two or three time a minute. It drove me crazy!

They thought the pressure switch in the pump was defective and so it was replaced. Didn't solve the problem.

Ultimately, it required replacing the Andersen 4 way valve. Here's the kickers- 1) the valve is in very short supply. It took the dealer almost a month to get it. 2) Installing the new valve did not immediately solve the problem because the coach was plumbed in a way unexpected to the tech and undocumented by Thor. VERY complicated but fixed finally.

As posted above if this is the issue a call to Anderson Brass may solve the issue. I also received a free replacement valve rebuild kit from them when the valve on my coach leaked internally.

Problem fixed. On my rig there is a check valve in the pump that prevents water from going back into the fresh water tank. Since my water pump was loud I decided to replace the pump. I did that yesterday. Very easy to do. I don't think I have an Anderson valve.

That's exactly what the Tech'ie told me and he is mailing me a pump...I don't see any kind of a "Anderson 4 way valve"...
My problem was not hearing the pump "run" it was letting the water flow thru the water pump, backwards...The fresh water tank got almost 3/4 full and created back pressure on the "water lines" running all under the king size bed and flooded the floor! My wife got up on the last morning of a two week trip and said, "Why is there water everywhere?"...That started the day off, all in a wad!
Anyway, I got it all soaked up with paper towels and dried it with my oscillating fan and everything was better on the drive home.
Awaiting my new pump!

That must have been a mess. My tank has a outside vent, so the tank over filled but just ran out the vent onto the ground. Good luck in putting in the new pump, you'll see its pretty easy, and you may want to see if there isn't a vent to the outside. Mine is right beside the fill hole, it has a small screen on it.

Thanks for the tip! My new pump arrived yesterday (Friday) afternoon, UPS Brown, (they even sent me a return label for the return of the old one). Of course my MH is a new one, (warranty runs out in November), but THOR has just been fantastic helping me, sending me the new parts to fix my problems, as long as I sent them back the old parts. I don't really like having the problems but from what I understand, all brands are the same, even the expensive ones. It is really better if your a pretty good mech and can do it yourself...

Have a GREAT Weekend!

X2

Maybe the vent hose from the tank to the screen next to the fill opening is not connected or split.

Maybe a bung plug missing near the top of tank.
