Cockpit bunk

we have a 2015 Wind-sport with an air mattress on the cockpit bunk .Has anyone put a foam mattress on it and not raised the bed all the way up when traveling. Thereabout is only about an inch and a half space for the deflated air mattress.I would like to use a 4 inch topper.

I've looked into doing just that, I had a problem with the bunk getting out of sync when not fully raised and lowered each time, but I am not sure that a couple inches would make a difference. The newer units have a mattress so there must be a way. I also ran into problems with the lock pins requiring the bunk be fully raised and mine will drift downward without the pins. I will be following this to learn from others how and what they did!

I have had a 6” mattress in the bunk for over a year of travel. The bunk would come done a bit since I could not put the pins in.
So what I did was run it up as far as possible and drilled pin holes. Right or wrong, it worked for me.
