Considering 2015 Axis - inspection

We have looked at several Axis and Vegas motorhomes in last few months. We currently have a Winnebago View 24H. We found a 2015 Axis with only 1500 miles on it...used model. Folks had bought it who had previous DP unit...couldn't handle the downsize issues. Priced at $64,995. Looks like a good deal, but with no warranty as Thor does not transfer the one year bumper-bumper warranty to second owners. So, we did a complete inspection on the dealers' lot today...found some issues but nothing serious. Transfer switch on generator does not work, no power to elec system. Drop down bunk switch does not work...continues to operate in spite of key off. Furnace does not work...no apparent elec power. Looked at the sewer hookup....weird, but can deal with it. Exhaust pipe sticks outside the trim panel so no damage there. Test drive showed lots of noise from front end...seems like much more than usual with a front gas engine. Front dash is off center about 1 inch...leaving 1 inch gap on left drivers side...noticed it especially where the emergency brake lever is off center of the cut out for fingers to reach the brake release lever. I asked the salesman where was the oil filler tube....he couldn't find it. Went and got a service tech...he showed us where it was....very weird placement, and huge design flaw.

Overall, we liked the unit...just expect all repairs to be made prior to delivery. I was surprised there were so many issues with a unit with only 1500 miles on it. But...the price is right. Any owners have similar experiences at such low miles?

That is a very good price. Our 2015 Axis already had 1100 miles on it, new, and we paid $72. We haven't had the issues you mention, but I would be concerned about any electrical issues. I do think that can be fixed by the dealer.

We traded in a Sprinter class C like yours, and we actually think the Axis is quieter. We do notice a slight squeak on the front right side of the cab that we haven't identified yet, but we were so used to the banging door and table in our old motorhome that it doesn't seem so bad. We agree that the oil filler tube is in a weird spot, but once you find it you know where it is. We plan to do our own oil changes.

Parked, the Axis is more stable and we don't have rocking issues like we used to have while camping. That is a nice bonus.

If you decide to buy, make sure the shower wall liner is securely attached! And do let us know how it goes!

Tomarn 49.
I love my Thor product and have had several MH's. It sounds to me it was more of a downsizing issue that made the previous owners trade it in. If there are several problems with the MH, I would insure that the dealer fixes everything before you buy it. Don't buy with the promise that they will fix. You can put a deposit down and sign paperwork when you inspect all repairs. I have dealt a lot with Thor on my current coach and love their service. Should you decide to buy it come join us at the Thor Motor Coach Owners Rally in May. See Sticky at top of page. Good luck and keep us posted. Also if you decide to buy I would recommend you look at an extended service plan through Wholesale Warranty.
