Converter trouble

I have a Thor Ace 29.2 and am new to motor homes. I have had intermittent times when I flip the switch at the stairs for "use" and I have no lights or radio. The batteries are fully charged as I had it plugged into shore power for a long period. Usually, I hear the converter click. Fuses and breakers are all good. Any ideas?

Are you sure that you are flipping the switch for the steps and not the switch for the 12V system?

I don't know about your coach but on ours the switches are in the same area on the same panel.

Also on some coaches the chassis batteries do not get charged when hooked to shore power or when using generator power. The only time they get charged is when the engine is running. (Remember I said "some".) On our 2006 I have to hook up a battery tender to keep the chassis battery charged if the coach is parked for a long period of time..

The house batteries will stay charged when hooked up to shore power or using generator power.

If you are not hearing the click when going to use, the relay is not switching. There is a small 5 amp in-line fuse on the relay itself. Had the same problem, it was the fuse.

my question would be around WHY are you flipping the 'Store' switch on and off if you are plugged into shore power? Store is only for when you are 'storing' your RV for a long length of time, with no electricity, and you want ALL available 12v draws to be Off so as to not drain the house batteries.

when you have electricity, there's no real reason to use the Store switch.

When you switch to store, your converter can not charge your batteries. It will only run the 12 volt stuff in the MH.

You say " the batteries are charged because it's plugged in a long time ". Have you checked that they are charged or are you assuming they are ?

Plugged in, with the switch in " store ", may be leaving you with low batteries.

As mentioned above, leave the switch in USE if plugged in to shore power.

Jon
He said he is flipping the switch "at the stairs". Not step switch
