I have an 07 Hurricane I'm selling and I extended one of the slides out for a perspective buyer. Well, the marine battery had just enough juice to slide it out but not back in. I tried a long slow charge on the battery hoping it would come back. Unfortunately it didn't. Storm after storm here in New England has prevented me from getting a new battery until now. It's been out for about 2 weeks. Temps have been frigid, as low as -9. I hear the hydraulic pump running normally now that the battery is new and charged but not a millimeter of movement from any of the slides, in or out. Has anyone had a similar problem? Should I run the heat for a few hours? Should I check the hydraulics somehow? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Lisa,
Questions on the easy stuff:
Have you started your motorhome and warmed it up?
Since you hear pump, can you have two strapping guys outside, push the slide in while you push the "in" switch?
Have you called Manufacturers of the hydraulic system or RV?
Your manual should help with trouble shooting.
Just my two cents and worth every penney,

Steve

Hi Steve,
Yes I did warm it up for about 2 hours. It didn't seem to help at all. I have a feeling I'm just going to have to wait until a bit of a thaw. The snow drifts around here are as tall as me in some spots making access to the open slide tough. I'm concerned because even though the motor seems to run and sound fine, it doesn't even sound like it's making an attempt to budge any of the slides, in or out. Not even a little click or knock like you will hear when a slide starts to move. I'm hoping for a few days above 35 soon. We haven't had anything above 20 for quite a while. Thanks for the feedback.
Lisa

HI,
I wouldn't run the pump anymore and would just have to wait for warmer weather. My reason is that if the pump builds up to much pressure it may pop a hose someplace.
If in the furure you can't get the slide in due to battery problem you should be able to hold in the emergency start switch and the slide switch. This should bring in the slide. My slideouts work off the engine battery and I would recommend you install a battery minder charger.
Another idea would be to call HWH and see what they say. Hope that solves your problem.

Hi Tom, I don't seem to have an emergency start switch on mine. I have a cut-off switch for the chassis and another for the house. My slides only seem to run off the hydraulics with a fully charged house battery. Having shore power plugged in or the generator running didn't help. The weather has warmed up a little, I'm hoping for a little more thawing before I attempt pulling the slide in again. Right now the snow is so deep I can't even get to the slide roof to clear off the snow without a lot of effort. For the moment I am leaving both battery switches on and the shore line cord is plugged in. At least both batteries (new house battery) should stay charged for the season or at least until the weather cooperates a little better.
Thanks again,
Lisa

LIsa,
Are you also charging the engine battery? I believe that controls the slide outs or at least it does on my coach.
By all means you will have to get all the snow off of the slideout before attemping to bring it in. After you have all the batteries charged, start the engine and get it to operating temperature and then try to bring slide in.
If HWH is the slide out maufacturer then you can call them and they will help you as they are great people.
GHope this helps and make sure you get snow off of slide.
