I ran mine (Onan 5500)for 5 days straight in 90 to 95 degree weather. Actually carried gas to the MH so I wouldn't have to move. By access door you mean a basement door, thats up to you. I didn't. If you mean the cover actually attached to the generator, the manual says not to run it with that cover off.
The Onan Gensets are made to run, not to worry.

I ran mine over 48 hours straight when we had a 3 day power failure. Used it to keep the refer and freezer going.

The biggest concern is the CO from the exhaust. make sure your CO monitor is functional. It is a good idea to use an exhaust extension like a Gen-turi to get the exhaust up over the roof height.

It would be a good idea to shut down after 12 hours and check the oil level to make sure you are not using oil.

Leave the compartment door shut.

In the motorhome we had run the generator for extended periods on more than one occassion.

Lack of use does more harm to the generator than does use, so run it, but do keep it maintained.

You need to keep the door/panel on the Genny closed...otherwise the cooling flow will not be work properly.

They say mechanics repair more gennys from lack of use than over use....

Yes we use it all the time got over 180 hours already on it in 1 1/2 years from brand new from the time we leave the driveway till we get to the campsite for CG power we use the gen also how else would we watch directv going down the road. Also at rallies and tailgating games and running the a/c roof on all the time. Like the saying , never leave home without it. American Express card
