Went to fire up the generator on my Serrano the other day. Turned but wouldn't start, then wouldn't turn over. I think the batteries are too low to kick the starter in. Does it start from the coach batteries?

Any other suggestions? BTW, how to you use a trickle charger on series 6-volts?

The generator is connected to the automotive battery. You might have an emergency start switch that will apply coach battery power to the automotive side in the event the engine battery fails.

You may want to read the 2 blogs that I published here on iRV2 about chargers.

Assured Automotive Power - BatteryMINDer Model 12248

At the end of the above Blog there's a link to Part #2.

you do indeed have the emergency start switch on the dash. Learn how to use it and also the priming operation of the gen. Find out why the batts went down ; the inverter on mine powers things you might find surprising. I turn off my inverter when I really dont want anything on. And yes I mean inverter not converter!
I found when not plugged in and my refer was on auto it wouldnt go to gas , it ran off the inverter. I had to manually set it to propane. If I had the inverter off it went to propane like it should.
I realize this is weird but you have to see it to believe it.

How to use a trickle charger on series six volts.

Simple.. When you hook them in series, as you have done you do not have 2 six volt batteries, You have one, big 12 volt battery (in two parts).. Think of them that way and most all your questions about six volt pairs is answered.

Can I replace just one? (Can you replace 1/2 of a 12 volt battery?)
How do I charge them? (You charge it)
Do they need to be the same (Age, Make, Type, Brand, Model, Size, etc)?
Would you buy a 12 volt battery that was half Interstate Half Excide, or half new half old, or half one size, half another and so on?

See, answers nearly all your questions and fast too..

Remaining question: Where do I get replacements? : Sam's Club.
