Most likely it is bad water pump. Most water pumps have a back flow preventer that stops city water from flowing in reverse thru pump. Remove suction hose from pump and there should not be any water coming out of pump when city water is connected. Get mfg and model number and check on line - there probably is a rebuild kit. Or 1. buy new pump or 2. add cutoff valve between pump and tank.

Is it possible you mean the blank tank? Could you be hooking the hose up to a black tank flush system?

Gray tank overfill
Thanks for info, but if it is the water pump wouldn't the water back up into the fresh water tank and not the gray water tank? How is it connected to the gray?

We do not have a flush system on this model. Just a single city water connection.

My bad no coffee before reading. Grey - key word. Sorry. Does the same thing happen when city water disconnected, pump is on and water in fresh water tank? Is there a RO/reverse osmosis system installed. RO system will do exactly what you say is happening. Are you the original owner? Previous owner or service tech's may have done something really weird.

Welcome!! We have the 29.2 2013, we purchased it new from Camping World. Our water pump was replaced the third year we had it. We also removed the macerator...we have not had your problem with the gray tank filling while connected to city water. Does it happen when you are not connected? By the way the bathroom sink empties into the black tank...

Thanks so much. I am the original owner. I have never heard of RO reverse system. I do not think I have one on an ACE.

ctpres may have been onto something IF your freshwater tank overflow goes to your gray tank, which I have never seen. As far as I know, the only inputs to your grey tanks are drains from sinks and showers. Just for grins, what is the status of your FW tank when this happens?
Is it possible your shower connections are leaking behind the wall and draining down the wall into the shower pan?

Did this problem start recently or has it been this way since new?
Does the grey tank slowly fill when running only the water pump and no city hookup? If so the pump should be cycling on and off when not using any water. This would indicate a leak somewhere.
If it only fills with the city water hooked up then the problem is between the city hook up and the pump. What that could be is beyond me.

A picture or two of the wet bay showing valves and hose connections might be helpful. When you remove cap to dump is there any liquid. Possible both black and grey dump valves not fully closed or leaking. Only other normal fresh water connection to grey tank would be tank flush system and you don't have that. Hang in there - it is fixable and a real challenge to figure out.

I just filled the fresh water and everything works as normal. No problem and pump does not recycle.
