2002 FourWinds Infinity, W22 Chassis, has had a problem with hazard flasher since new. Entire turn signal/hazard flasher switch was replaced in first year. Seemed somewhat ok but became intermittent and will not work at all now.
When problem first came up service advisor said there was a problem with the switch (as in maybe a recall item?)
We thought having the switch replaced would be all that was needed. Recently asked several sources about this and can't find anyone yet that will say there was/is a problem. An auto tech recently told us he did not think replacement would permanently solve the problem because he knew GM had a problem and if Workhorse is basically using the same switch, then it isn't right yet.
Checked with a GM/Workhorse Parts Dealer today, 8-26-08...the entire "combo" switch is retailing at $450! We are pretty sure the problem is in the very top/switch part that goes in and out....unfortunately you can't just get that part. GM part #26100985 is supposed to be available wholesale/internet for less. Have also discovered that by carefully raising the button, there is one spot where the flashers will work! So problem is in the the switch. It is hard to think we have had two bad units!
Presently checking recall items in GM --found one in 2001 for Oldsmobile...need to check the exact part number.
Also, not sure if the problem is aggravated by a tow set-up. We have a Roadmaster all 4 down for our 2002 Chrisler T&C minivan with a REMCO transmission pump. All wired with a 6 prong setup by reputable installer.
Thanks for your feedback.
Would like to know if others have had anything similar. Thanks!

A friend of mine has an 04 W-22 chassis and the emergency flashers stopped working. The turn signals were okay. He bought a new flasher unit for 125.00 dollars from the second dealer he talked to. The first authorized dealer (a truck repair place) wanted over 500 bucks for the same part.

Ms Jean's experience parallels my own and she seems to be coming to the same conclusion that"simply replacing the switch is chasing diminishing returns.Mine failed after about 45 minutes of use.It is a poor excuse for a switch and I replaced it with a proper push-pull switch, employing three relays that will not fail after 45 minutes of use.The sad truth is,this is not a cheap fix if one has to pay shop labour rates even though the parts are only about thirty dollars.

Someone on this forum posted that a switch for from an S-10 pickup is the same including the part number. Might be worth a check. exwrench could you send or post a schematic of your set up? Thanks Marv

Frankie, thanks for your response. We have been in contact with Workhorse Technical and so far no one there seems to know there is a problem! Ms Jean

Hi exrench,
We would be appreciative if you would share your "fix" with us also! Am thinking that the problem is poor materials for the in/out switch area.

Calvin,
We talked to Workhorse/Chevrolet parts departments and it appears that Workhorse now uses a GM part. Unfortunately, the word is that even the "Chevy" part won't hold up. One good thing...the GM/Chevy parts are readily available through internet at reduced cost.

exrench,
we have obtained some wiring schematics of the combination switch which includes the hazard flasher. If that would be a help to you in describing your "fix" of the bad switch, would be happy to e-mail to you. Our personal e-mail is: fpychaiii@aol.com (Frank and Jean Pycha in Fountain Hills, AZ)

I had a problem with mine on my 05 but the problem was me. I was so use to pulling the hazard switch out to turn them off and thats what I did to this one. the problem is on this one you have to push it in a second time to turn them off and when I pulled it out it pulled the contacts away from the turn signal switch. After taking it completly apart to replace it I dicovered all I had to do was push the hazard switch back in till it clicked. I returned the new part and it has worked for over a year now.
