Heater in RV

We have a freedom elite 26E. We tried to turn on the heater one cold night and it did not come on. The controls are on the A/C unit. Is it electric or gas? Without an owners manual, we are lost. Anyone out there know what will turn the heater on?

Your heater is powered by propane and the fan is run by the rv house battery. check your propane tank for fuel and house battery for juice.

Make sure your propane tank is turned OPEN so that gas will go to the heater unit. Your battery must have enough power to fire the igniter and run the blower.

Do you have ducted ac or are controls on the ac unit? There is an option for a heat strip that can be added to an ac unit it is electric you may or may not have this option, you most likely have a gas furnace look for a thermostat on the wall if the propane is turned on turn up the temperature on the thermostat you should hear the fan come on and about thirty seconds later you should hear the furnace fire up. If it hasn't been used for a while it will smell hot at first if you have an older camper you should have the furnace checked to be sure it's safe to operate. You should also make sure you have a working co2 detector just to be safe.

I don't know what year Thor freedom elite 26E you have, but the ones I found on line say they have a forced air LP gas furnace of 25,000 or 30,000 BTU. Check that gas is on, (does your stove and water heater work?) and thermostat set on heat. If someone stands outside next to the furnace exhaust as the thermostat is turned up, you should hear the fan motor start up. When the fan is going fast enough to push the paddle of the sail switch, it should turn on the gas and you'll hear the clicking/sparking of the ignitor.

Take the cover off the furnace and write down the make and model number. If you do a Google search of that information you should find a PDF manual and trouble shooting guide to download. You could also do this with the other systems and appliances in your RV, it's a nice reference to have.
