Post How's the Super C's quality?

Howdy,

I'm intrigued by Thor's Super C motorhomes, their 33SW and 35SK models. They look very nice! Having consumed the Winnebago kool-aid twice, however, I wonder about the comparative quality.

Any former Winnebago owners who now own a Thor care to comment?

Thanks.

We have a 2006 Winnebago Aspect 26A. We've decided that this year we will upgrade to a larger motorhome, and a diesel engine is a must-have on our list. There aren't many out there in a class C configuration, and we don't want a class A. We are and have been impressed with our Winnebago's quality, and as we've looked at other brands, we've been disappointed with the quality of other brands. However, we looked at a new 35sk today and have them working up numbers for us. I suspect if we like what they come back with tomorrow, we'll be dropping off our Winnebago and taking delivery of a new Four Winds 35SK.

Frankly, I don't know how the quality will work out but what we saw today seemed to be well constructed and there were lots of little details that someone put some thought into. I am hopeful though, as the company that owns Airstream must know a thing or two about quality, and perhaps that something has made its way over to the Four Winds Super C.

There is a 3rd Thor Super C...the 35SG. That's the Outlaw toy hauler version.

This RV has intrigued me since seeing the teaser 3 months ago and reading about it after the Louisville RV show.

I would offer that the material and build quality is as good as any brands mid-level Class A's. The layout is innovative and has everything that would be needed to travel long distances and camp in the deep boondocks.

I am not a big fan of the trend for very dark cherrywood tone interior cabinets and dark exterior colors...but somebody must like them, because the unit toured today and many others seen recently is quite dark inside because of the deep dark wood work.

The fabrics are well made and finished well and all the controls are easy to read and located well.

Finally, the Ford F-550 has all the bells and whistles that would be expected inside a color matched cab, with bumper facia and running boards that blend very well into the house body...and the 10,000lb towing capacity is pretty amazing.

Having lots of experience with the typical Van Cab/Chassis Class C's, I was impressed at how Thor has put these RV's together.

Hope that helps somebody.
Safe travels

We still think the floor plan for the 35SK and its potential value proposition are awesome, but as we were cleaning out our Winnebago this morning before taking it to the dealership to seal the deal, we could not shake the feeling that we were making the wrong choice.

Why, you ask?

While we don't live in our RV, we do spend around 45 nights in it each year. Quality construction is really important to us; we expect the doors to close solidly, that nothing rattles badly, that the windows open and close easily, and that the shades work right. We also like quality furniture, an appreciation for finish detail, and comfort. We also like a company to have a good track record; we haven't had any issues for the five years we've had our 26A.

After considering our concerns for quality, the bad things I've read about factory quality control from Thor, especially the problems with slides, with the items I observed with the coach we were going to purchase, and our gut feelings, we came to the conclusion that the quality of the 35SK super C was ultimately inferior to that of our Winnebago Aspect.

The result?

We didn't go through with the sale this morning. We elected to buy a little larger Winnebago product instead, an Itasca Cambria 27K.

Since this original question was from a fellow Winnebago fan, I felt like I should provide this update.
