Lukewarm Hot Water

My 2016 Outlaw 37RB has suffered from lukewarm hot water from day one. Thinking I might have a 120 deg thermostat, I bought one I knew to be 140 deg.... no help.

I sawed out the top of the hot water heater compartment to connect water lines for a new washer dryer and I'll be darned if there isn't a bypass valve which was OPEN. Problem solved.

Don't know if this is part of a winterizing circuit.... but not very useful if you have to saw out a panel to get to it. What the heck, Thor?

WH Bypass valve is used for winterizing (or any other time you want to remove water heater from system)

Close cold water inlet valve
Close hot water outlet valve (if equipped)--otherwise the check valve in hot out stops backflow
Open Bypass Valve


To place water heater in service so you have HOT water reverse the valving

Having to 'cut out a panel using a saw doesn't sound right.......should be an access via removing a panel or a drawer. Not always 'conveniently placed' but S/B something

The two main reasons for lukewarm water from a working water heater are...bypass valve (for winterizing) and the exterior shower (valves left on with head shut-off).

The shower is easy to check. The winterizing valve getting turned was probably on the the dealership or delivery driver...winterized somewhere between Indiana and your house.

Unless the stairs to the loft disassemble in some easy fashion, the only way in is through the thin plywood "ceiling" to the water heater compartment.

That "thin ply" piece is typically the bit that is removable.
Our is held by only 2 screws.

Of course you had to run plumbing, so the new hole is required.

You would want to ensure access to the winterizing/bypass valve, for later or for the next owner
