Mice will chew through anything short of metal. Plastic, wood, foam, etc.. Even stuff that is supposedly a deterent. One trick that I was shown years ago is "Bounce" clothes dryer sheets.. Mice will run the other way when faced with this stuff.. I have stored numerous cars and trailers as well as my motorhomes with a couple boxes of Bounce dryer sheets scattered about and under the hoods etc.. I have had cars parked in pole barns right next to mine where the mice had nested in them, chewed the wiring up etc with NO mouse nests or damage on mine.. A side benefit is that the cars and motorhomes smelled fresh as a daisy in the spring..
Your mileage may vary - but I just got 3 new boxes of bounce for storing my 5er and cars this winter..
