Onan/Cummins 5.5 generator service

I was told in order to properly service my Onan/Cummins 5.5 RV QG generator in my 2013 Thor Hurricane 34F on Ford F-53 chassis I would need to drop the unit to get to the back spark plug. Anyone have experience with this?

We had the non-LP 5500 back in the day and although it was difficult to get to we were able to replace both plugs with a few socket wrenches and swivels.

My MH is in shop for warranty work being performed and I decided to let them service the MH, last minute decision was to go ahead and let them service the 5500 ONAN...I guess it was the right decision, huh....

How much did they charge for the service? oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs should be the service. My estimates would be around $500.00. I have spent $50.00 but need time and another hand.

$102.00- Oil,Filter & fuel filter...Being it's just break in, 20 hours and we don't dry camp at all, my generator is more of a convenience than a necessity...It is sure a good thing to have at the storage lot, and when we're getting ready to leave on a trip (charging batteries and running the fridge!)

My Onan 5500 is now 5 years old with 72 hours.
I run the generator under load regularly to ensure it doesn't gum up and I add fuel stabilizer prior to long dormant periods.
The oil is changed annually.
I recently changed the oil myself for under $20 (using Onan parts) which takes about 20 minutes, and have no need to change the plugs, or do further service.
The drain plug is visible and accessible, as is the filter, and the task is very simple.
If you find the generator doesn't want to start it is probably due to a gummed up carb from using old gas and not running it frequently enough.
Add I-2 bottles of injector cleaner into the gas tank and run the genie "under load" for an hour.
Save your money and give it a try.

Words of advice

I changed the oil, oil filter, air filter last week. This week its the spark plugs and fuel filter. Any advice on either would be great.

my 5.5 onan in a 2010 windsport is pretty easy to service. on mine, sparkplug access behind the airfilter box is easy by removing the airfilter box. takes 5 minutes....
I googled onan 5500 tune up videos and found some good ones

I found that I had much better access to the plugs once I removed the valve covers. Since I did that I went ahead and adjusted the valve lash as well.
