Question Onan Gen. Troubleshoot

I hope someone has the answer. Scenario: Ac on my 2016 Thor Palazzo works when shored up to 50amp hookup. HOWEVER, when traveling down road, I run the generator and try to run the house a.c. and it wont come on. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Thank you in advance.

I assume you mean the A/C won't come on as opposed to the genset won't start.

Try resetting the breaker on the genset. Assuming Onan, it will be up on the panel of the genset near water fill.

Need some more information. You state that you "run the generator" generator while traveling down the road". Do you have electrical power while the generator is running? By that I mean, can you run appliances plugged into the wall that are NOT plugged into inverter supplied outlets? Does the microwave work? You may have a running generator, but it is not putting out AC (alternating current) power. If that is the case, than the AC (air conditioning) will not work. As stated above, verify that your genny is putting out AC power. If no, than you need to look at genny circuit breaker and/or transfer switch. If it IS putting out AC power, than the problem needs to be addressed at the air conditioner.

yes, probably your Generator BREAKER, on the top of the generator, has tripped - the gen will still crank, but you will have no power to anything - if your Magnum panel above the door says 'Inverting', then you are NOT on generator power, otherwise it will read 'Charging'(as long as your charger is on, of course)

As others have mentioned, generator breaker, they trip for no reason. I found mine tripped when changing the oil last month after sitting in storage for 6 months.

Thanks everyone for the input. I found the problem and I was able to fix it without a visit to the shop. Safe travels everyone.

Yes, don't keep us in suspense! Besides, it may help the next person with a similar problem . . . .

Don't worry if it was a "not so brilliant" move on your part that caused it. After owning my coach for over a year, I forgot what one of the switches at the entry step was for. I had to post for help on IRV2. Turned out to be awning LED's. I felt silly for about 15 seconds then my ego kicked in and I was fine.

Hello!
I feel silly because it was just that. The on off switch on the generator was on the off position. A flip of the switch and it worked. Thand you everyone!

Wow! I've NEVER done something like that! . . . . except maybe one, two, darn, I think I need to take off my gloves, remove my shoes and socks, and maybe get a calculator to count that high!

Glad you are back up and running!
