Question Serrano Battery Question

After four years the engine start batteries in my 2011 Serrano are not keeping a charge. Batteries were dated Mar 2010. I am getting ready to replace them. My two car service manuals recommend removing the positive battery cable first when disconnecting the battery. My experience over the last 40 years or so was to disconnect the negative cable first. My mechanic tells me that the positive cable should be removed first to help protect the electronics in a car from damage when the battery leads spark on reconnection.

So, I now have this diesel Max Force 7 engine. Which battery lead comes off first + or -.

Just an opinion, but I always do the negative first on disconnect, and
last on the reconnect. Not a mechanic, but have done it this way
many, many times.
