Shore cord

I'm new to the forum but not to rving. I have a lot of input to add about my terrible experience with A NEW 2014 Thor ACE 30.1.
I have one question to ask. I notice my last trip out that my Shore Cord was very HOT at the campground plug. This happened at 3 campgrounds. I bought a new shore cord and still happened. Any idea's? We never over load the system. Since I found this we only was using the a/c. This is a 30amp unit. This never happened until I got it back from Thor taking it to the factory for MANY MANY of PROBLEMS!!!
Glad to be a member of iRV2.

Yes mine is usually warm, don't forget your running the AC, FRIDGE, 12 VOLT CONVERTER, and anything else plugged in. All that comes really close to 30amp!

An old/worn 30A pedestal receptacle can cause the male plug on a shore cord heat up, (and even melt).

Hot plugs happen for one of two reasons.. The one that you should be worried about usually only happens with 30 amp plugs.. Less than optimal connections to the park outlet.. This can be caused by dirty, tranished plugs (I always clean mine even if I used it just 2 weeks ago) and dirty tarnished wore down park outlets. It can also be caused by poor connections inside the park power box

The one that should NOT concern you is sunlight.. I once draw about 10 amps max through a 30 amp extension cord that was mostly lying in the sun.. The sunny part of the cord was too hot to handle without gloves when I went to put it away.. the shaded portion of the cord was COLD to the touch.

Buy a "clamp on" amp meter, borrow one, or ask an electrician to take a measurement. I assume that it only gets hot when you're frequently running the AC.

The meter will determine total power coming through that cable, which is part of what you need to know.

Ideally, you'd take measurements with:
1) Plugged in, nothing on
2) Plugged in water heater on
3) plugged in AC / water heater on
