We are several months away from the State of Union so I thought I would fill in the time with State of my 40ax. Purchased new in '16, has about 8k miles, 150 hrs on gen and 7 road trips with longest Virginia to Florida and back. During the first two years, we had several minor items repaired under warranty. Now that the warranty period is over, we are seeing some additional items pop up along with some previous items that were repaired under warranty. In case anyone has this model coach, or is interested in purchasing one here is our some of our experience to date:
-Furnace igniter clicking when furnace is not selected. This was repaired under warranty, but is still an issue. I was informed by the tech, it is a design flaw as apparently rain water intrusion is getting on the circuit board. To keep the igniter from firing, I have to take the exterior panel off and turn the blower/igniter switch off.
-Main awning motor froze. Repair facility stated it burned up due to a faulty wire connection. They are running another ground.
-Still have water intrusion into the bedroom cabinets and refrigerator floor area during a heavy rain when the PS slide is in. No intrusion when the slide is out. This was also previously covered under warranty as they resealed the area around where the awning attaches to the coach. Hmmm, I wonder if water intrusion had anything to do with the awning motor????
-Rear bedroom slide would not work. Warranty item. Technician found a loose wire behind the main electrical panel. Works fine except the slide does not seat properly now (about a 3/4 inch difference between the top of the slide and bottom when closed) and the bottom seal on the slide is all jacked up.
-Delamination of the wall covering inside the coach in several places
-Instrument lights flicker when set to the dim setting. Repaired under warranty, but still not fixed.
-At the repair visit for the awning, they let us use power to keep the fridge running. Unfortunately, I found the coach trips the source GFI breaker when plugged into 110, 20amp power. No problems when connected to campround 50 amp or using the generator or the inverter.
-Nothing you can do about the AC's being loud. Our workaround is to run the Bedroom AC when we are in the living area and run the living area AC when we are sleeping at night. But hey, they work!
-Jacks operations were temperamental and tripped the CB several times and had to reset the electronic pad several times as well. Has been working without incident the last 3 trips.
The coach drives nice and we really like the layout with the theater seating and booth dinette. Getting to understand how to set up and use the TV/cable/antenna/satellite system is a somewhat steep learning curve. We wrote a detailed how to manual, since our trips are infrequent.
No problems with the FL chassis or Cummings 360 engine. Gets 8.9 mpg towing the jeep and I usually set the cruise about 70. Do not have any sway with passing trucks (like I did with the Palazzo), however, on very windy crosswind days, hold the wheel!
My understanding is that all MH's have issues so I am not going to jump on never again Thor bandwagon ........yet!
