Steps will not drop down

We have had a problem twice recently. The steps on our Serrano will not drop down when opening the door. However as soon as you start the engine the steps work and will keep working even with the engine turned off.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Is the little sensor still attached? Kids knocked my off one time. Steps would not work when door opened.

I would start by lubing all of the hinge points on the steps. I would also remove the connector and spray contact cleaner in it and reconnect. While your down there clean the ground wire connection.

The connector and ground are in a bad place under the RV and behind a wheel getting exposed to road dirt.

To be safe, always work on the steps from the side and behind, in case it extends when not expecting it to.

Thanks for the input. I did check the reed switch and it tests OK.
