We use our macerator rarely. It is inefficient.
I have to disagree with you here. While I was a victim of a jammed macerator on my maiden RV trip (because of a small piece of plastic left in the tank by Thor) the macerator has performed very well for me and I wouldn't think of going to a slinky. We have spent over 600 nights of the road in the past 4 years and have dumped the tanks at least 150 times without a problem. I don't think it is inefficient at all.

Fredkate. You have been very lucky. At least u did not have to replace 4 of those expensive things due to parts breaking, I think I will stick to the hose until something better comes along. You have great luck. Safe camping

My macerator experiences have been documented on this forum but I'm pretty confident that my rebuilt macerator will function just fine. The best advice I have read for someone considering a new RV equipped with a macerator is to first of all fill the black and gray tanks with plain water and dump using the stinky slinky. The thinking that makes sense is that any manufacturing debris will get swept away before the macerator's first use. After market macerator are sold to allow emptying tanks into sanitary sewers uphill from the RV. There's always an appropriate application.
