Thor ACE End Cap - Cautionary Look

I was informed this week that my end cap caulk, under the roof paint, is cracking. The end cap caulking was either exposed to rain during curing or it was painted before being fully cured. Camping World informed me they are contacting Thor to see if the will pay labor and material charges on my unit that is only 8-months old. We will see the result.

Camping World told me they would re-caulk it but it needed a 24 hour cure inside the facility. I'm full-timing and will need a motel...lol. The weather here is always wet and of course still cold.

You may want to have yours checked too!

Red face ShadowT

Thanks for reply. I hope to get out much more frequently to catch any bugs/issues here in the next couple of months. Hope everything else is going well for you.

Front end brow and rear end cap were discovered degraded. CW stated that the seal was not cured properly or exposed to moisture. New sealant on front and back witl take 2 hours labor and about $150 in materials.

Thor only warranty's roof on new RVs for 90 days.

Out of the kindness of their good will, they will pay for only one hour ($120) of the two hour charge. Leaving me a bill of around $250 with tax.

It requires a long dry time indoors without even a dew settling moisture possibility.

Have your roofs inspected. Water damage is a disaster.

Hey ShadowT!

We've had our ACE 30.1 about 60 days and very few issues (mostly fit and finish that has been adequately addressed by CW), but this roof issue concerns me. We are out in California and will likely not see any appreciable rain until well into winter. Absent any water intrusion (which I hope to avoid by close inspection), how would I know if we had this issue? I have been up on the roof and examined the end caps and the sides and noted an area or two (on the sides, not the ends) that appear to be a bit softer than the rest. Is that what I am looking for or something different? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The only other serious issue we have (and Thor is looking into) is acrack right in the center of the bathroom counter, directly behind the faucets (almost like the faucets were overtightened on install). Otherwise we are loving our first motorhome.

Thanks!

90 days? are you kidding? Camping World already told you it wasn't done right from the factory.

See if Thor has a big picture window in there shop and drive it threw it.

Cw discovered it after we made it to WA from FL. I did not go on the roof. I have a tall ladder now so I can inspect and clean the roof. I understand the the material was soft. Not cured as the rest of the roof. It developed fine cracks near the top sides of the end caps. Thor said they would pay for 1-hour of rhe labor but Ive never seen the check. Glad I used a dehuminifer last fall and winter or interrior damage may have occured. There has been much less moisture since the repairs with less than 1 gallon a week dump from the dehumidifier verses 2 plus gallions. I'm full timing it away from wife and house and am comfortable.

After it is repaired, do yourself a favor and put a strip of Eternabond on the seam.
