Thor Serrano: Good buy or not?

My local CW has a 2012 Thor Serrano on the lot at $119,000. I was getting very interested until I saw the Workhorse badge. Didn't Workhorse go out of business? I asked the salesman about service, spare parts etc and he did the "salesman soft shoe" around the issue, muttering "Well, its a Cummins engine and they're still around". I also realized its a front engine diesel and does not have airbags or airbrakes. Question: should I avoid buying a coach on a Workhorse chassis?

I have a 2011 and love it.

QC was not the best on earlier years, but I only had minor issues.

The web is showing lower pricing than $119.

The workhorse area on iRV2 will give you some insight. I am not worried.

I owned a 2010 Serrano and we loved the layout, style, and handling and it was our first class A. We had some engine related issues and Workhorse/Navistar worked very hard to help us work through this problem. The problem did not show up on any other engines, it was peculiar to our installation.

There are a ton of Workhouse chassis in operation and there should be no problem with support for many years. Besides the aftermarket parts folks will step in to fill the gap like they do now for other areas of the RV community.

If the Serrano fits your requirements and budget then I would not worry about the chassis.

One more thing I should mention, the Serrano has a Navistar Maxxforce 7 front end diesel, not a Cummings engine so the sales person was really doing the “soft shoe”…

We bought a brand new 2011 Serrano (31V) in late 2010. We loved the design, the handling, the great gas mileage with the little Maxxforce 7 diesel and many other things about it. HOWEVER, it seemed everytime we took it out, something would breakdown. I should have known it was possessed, as it didn't even make it home after we bought it. I did get tired of the "short queen", but just got to where I didn't trust it. We recently traded it in on a 2013 Phaeton 40QBH.
