i think the laws for brakes on the cars we tow with the motor homes is nuts. If i tow somthing with my crv that wieghs 1000lbs i don't need brakes on the trailor the crv weighs 3500 lbs
so my tralor is more than 25% of the weight of the car, a m/h weighing 18000 lbs has to have brakes for a toad that weighs 3500 lbs is only 20%.the companys that sell the brakes for toads must have a strong voice in government.
it's just another stupid law!!!!!!!!

Read this thread regarding the physics of towed vehicles.
I wouldn't tow any toad w/o some sort of auxiliary braking. Yes, you normally probably don't need auxiliary brakes on the toad, but I have them when I do need them, as in a panic stop. I don't want to have the front end of my MH look like the back end of an 18 wheeler.

Toad brakes are a complete and total waste of money.....................until you need them.
Then they're priceless.

Calm down Gary, I though when Canada gave women the right to bare breast up there it left alot to the descretion of the individual and you should be ALOT calmer

Sidewinder , Who is Gary?
Just like leaving home without your American Express card. if you have one , you will use it ,Just like toad brakes , you would apprecieted it when you have to slam hard on your coach brakes.

i've got the ready brake unit, and i will be putting it on my third mh, when it comes in. i think it fills the problem and helps a lot. its probably the least expensive one out there, and it is easy to install. i know there are a lot of units out there that might work better, but this one does the job and covers your a**

There are several choices available, and personal preference enters into the decision.
Do you want;
A permanently installed system or portable?
A system that taps into the coach's or toad's brake system?
Proportional or non proportional toad braking?
Control and supervision of the system from the coach?
Most of the systems work well, and their proper installation and use is most important.

My biggest fear would be that 3500lb toad breaking free and crashing head on into another car.Then again,if it seperated from the MH and the brakeaway engaged,someone could crash into it, what a dilema.Too much thinking.I use a portable roadmaster brake.Its not the most reliable but the brakeaway works.How do I know it works? Thats a story for another time.
