Unloaded vehicle weight?

Hello all. We are picking up our 2014 Thor Hurricane 32A next week and have a question about weights. The Certificate of Origin for a Vehicle, from Thor, says the "shipping weight" is 15,522. Is that the Unloaded Vehicle Weight?
The manual says the following:

Unloaded Vehicle Weight (UVW) is the weight of this motor home as

manufactured at the factory with full fuel, engine oil, and coolants.
I don't want to subtract the weight of the full, 6 lbs/gal x 80 gals = 480 lbs. twice in determining the carrying capacity.
I will be lucky in that I can weight it on a scale right after we take delivery, and it will have minimal stuff in it, not including ourselves. So I can see what that weight is, subtract the weights of all the fluids and us, and see how close that is to the above figure.

You should always check the accuracy of the UVW, by weighing the vehicle.
But to possibly answer your question, doesn't the paperwork on the unit , list a CCC, ( Cargo Carrying Capacity )

I suggest you weigh it to get accurate figure. If you had any options added, not sure if they are factored into the sticker or invoice weight. Awnings, generator, etc. could be additional weight not listed. Also, why not load it up with your personal gear before weighing? That's the number you need to properly inflate tires and determine towing capacity.

Congratulations on the new coach. You will have many years of great experiences as you meet your new 'family' in the RV'ing world.

The unloaded vehicle weight is most likely an estimate by the manufacturer based on standard and optional equipment included in your RV. Plus as stated full fuel. They may have actually weighed it, some do. It would be great if they actually weighed it with full fuel!!

That should give you and idea of how much "stuff" you can add to make it your home.

Bottom line is the GVWR or gross weight for the chassis. Once you have everything in it you want (or close to it) you should weight it to see how close you are to the GVWR.

A corner weight is best. Axle weighing is OK.

Once you have the weights when loaded you may have to shift stuff in order to get your axle weights correct. The CCC (difference between the unloaded and GVW) is that number. Regardless you should not go over the GVWR or GAWR for your coach if at all physically possible.

There have been coaches with the axle loads so close, especially on the front that the driver and co-pilot were unable to sit in the front seats without the axle being over. For the most part that has been addressed by all manufacturers, although some still come close.

once you have your actual weights you can figure out the correct tire inflation pressures and air them accordingly.

Hi G Man,
Gas weighs 6.15 pounds/gallon. This might not seem like much difference, but if the tank is hanging way off the rear axle the actual weight on the axle is more than 492 pounds. Unless it is curiosity, I see no benefit weighing the coach as described. The definition mentioned is correct for UVW. Fill the propane tank, add your stuff and then get it weighed. Then you will know how much is left on each axle and total.

My GeorgieBoy came from the factory with "Shipping weight" showing individual wheel weights. It did specify 1/8th tank of fuel. I would assume engine oil and coolant were as specified. (assume) so just corrected for fuel quantity.

The other posts on getting the vehicle weighed "ready to use" will give more useful info on how much useable weight you have remaining, and how it is distributed. UVW is just "nice to know".

did you get it???

The last stop my fifth wheel made when coming out of the factory was at the scale. I received a printout of all weights--tires, pin weight, total weights, etc.

What was interesting was that the left side weighs 700 lbs. more due to the large kitchen slide and appliances being on one side.
