Using the RV in the Winter

Does anyone use their Motorhome in the winter? When I say winter, I don't mean you lucky guys that are in Florida, Arizona, Texas, or California. I am talking about winter that would freeze all the places that water is present. I understand the protocol for winterizing it for storage, but I'm interested in using it. Thoughts????

We live in PA and plan on using our through Thanksgiving Weekend. After that we Winterize and if we do venture out in the winter months after that we de-winterize and re-winterize as required. There are a few campgrounds in the Tr-state area that are open year round however with limited amenities.

Pardon my ignorance, but if you de-winterize it, won't the water supply freeze even while driving?

If going south we usually de-winterize in Georgia. And then winterize again when we arrive home.

My wife and I are removing our winterized Palazzo from inside storage in Rockford, IL on December 17 (it could be REALLY cold that time of the year) and driving to California and back for a long Christmas break. The plan is to drive pretty much straight south and avoid any water use through the fresh water plumbing system until we hit warm enough winter to avoid freezing anything. We've stocked gallon water jugs in the heated area of the coach, and we have extra RV antifreeze to allow us to flush the toilet and brush our teeth until it is safe to fill the water tank.

On our return, we will re-winterize before heading north again, and avoid all grey and black water activities in the coach so that it will be stored "clean" until Spring.

That's the plan, but I guess we won't know for sure until we've suffered through any failures. If anyone has other suggestions, I'm all ears! Dangerous to say that on one of these forums, I know!

All right just gotta say this. We take our coach to Ft Bragg, winterize it and leave it until Christmas day. Then we go south to Key West unTil March and drive home to Kentucky.

PS: I've driven into cold weather before with Arctic Packs (Georgetown). But on my Thor I asked the question - it seems that with the floor vents they replace the Arctic packs. Only had it happen once - no problems.
