Vegas Windshield Cracks

Our new 3 week old Vegas developed 5 different cracks in the windshield. Nothing hit the windshield. 4 cracks on left, 1 on right. 3 occurred yesterday, 2 today. Is this a problem because of the BIG windshield on the Vegas and Axis models? Thor has been contacted about replacing it.

What were the circumstances when each of the cracks happened.

I have replaced 3 cracked one piece windshields. One crack was started by rock chip traveling down a winding road. The other two occurred entering and exiting the road way, one exiting a long smooth concrete driveway diagonally onto a smooth roadway.
After the last cracked windshield, I strengthened my suspension by adding a Rear track bar and front and rear Anti-sway bars. My coach doesn't twist like a limp wash rag any more and I haven't cracked any more windshields.

I remember reading about Hurricane/Windsport windshields popping out or cracking while using the automatic leveler, (flexing of the coach). And, by slamming the entry door, (air pressure).

Could that be plaguing the Vegas/Axis models?

Wow, 5 cracks I only had one and that was on the drivers side about eye level. It started at the edge, went horizontal about 3 inches then went down about two feet. Getting it replaced under warranty next week. It was not centered in the frame. Read here that another Vegas owner had the same condition I had. Hope this one works. Glad I have no deductible glass coverage

I believe that the windshield on the Vegas is inherently a bad design. Because it is soo big and heavily curved both horizontal and vertically, that the first time it is installed and/or the body flexes, it cracks.

Got the windshield replaced and all he wind noise disappeared. Drove is for about 5 k miles and no cracks but just recently the right bottom corner came unadhered and wind noise came back. The Thor tech said it would removed and reset. Another poor quality job by Mike Thompson or poor design byThor.

There are many things that can cause cracks including heat stress and other stress.. but it you only took delivery of a brand new RV 3 weeks ago there is good news.. it's contained in one single word... WARRANTY.

Often, after they re-do the windshield,, they do it properly.. the 2nd time.

Well it looks like the are going to remove it again and reseat it. It popped out on both corners on the drivers side and pulled ou of the gasket on the other. It is duct taped up now. Talked to Thor today and they want to get it fixed for me and questioned the procedures of the installation. My question to them was why did they change the size of the 2016 Vegas windshield.
Anyone else having windshield problems?

It's a valid design, however it's cheaply made with as thin glass layers as they can get away with.

Windshield manufacturers strive to save weight, material, and mold expenses. This is most easily accomplished my using thinner cheaply formulated glass compounds.

They can continue to make it thin, but they would need to change the ratios for the compound, making it more expensive.

They can make it thicker using he same cheap glass, but that will increase weight and require new tooling.

Ahh....

Just make it out of a new transparent ceramic AION high grade optical ballistic material, (an aircraft/aerospace window, informally called "transparent aluminum" from the 80's Star Trek movie). It will never discolor, break /scratch/crack, will provide 100% UV protection, be very light, be literally micro-space debris/bulletproof, but unfortunately would cost about 27X as much, (that IS a BIG window)!

My Vegas window had one small crack after a long weekend trip. While I waited for my appointment with Camping World, a second crack appeared, both on the passenger side. It is under warranty , so they replaced it.

Got the windshield removed and replaced again. This time it was a different tech. He said that he shimmed the entire window gasket out. So far after 400 miles it is still ok.

After another 400 miles I developed a wind whistle at the bottom of the windshield. Then both bottom corners topped out. Good old duct tape held it it in for the next 10k miles of our trip. Will see if they can fix it the 4th time..

Anyone else with this problem?
