Angry MaxxForce 5 Power Issue

Has anyone experienced low power issues? Traveled through CA and CO and was getting blown off the highway during hill climbs. Sometimes down to 30 MPH? On one occasion, there was no power available after starting engine and making 180 degree turn into intersection - dangerous situation! Accelerator was floored with no response. Engine is also slow to accelerate.
Any suggestions would help. Only 30,000 miles. 2010 Damon Avanti. Not a keeper if engine power is this low!

Well... how steep of a grade are you talking? Hills or 4% , 5%, 6%.....

Based on your lack of power on level ground, I think I might have it looked at, but generally some idiot light should have lit and sounded.

The brochure for that years lists a 200hp cummins.......?

Maxxforce 5 Power Issues

Thanks for the reply. Hill grades were various - 2% - 4%. Only light on dash was Exhaust Gas High Temperature which was on quite a lot. Learned this is normal even though it is an amber light. Damon switched to Cummins mid 2010 due to cost of Maxxforce/Workforce combination. In reading other threads, others with this combination don't have an issue which is great - at least there is hope to get it resolved. By the way, flew Eagles for 10 years. Great radar!

I don't think that you will get your answers here. The rig isn't running properly for sure and you will have to take it in for a diagnosis. Your chassis/engine combo is not a ball of fire but should get you up the road easily. If you are lucky it might just be a loose electronic connection. Keep us informed.

That'll do it it man, you have an issue for sure. Your engine is de-rating. You'll want to have that looked into.

No kidding! That's awesome. I was one of your flight-line radar techs at Tyndall, 2nd Fighter Squadron.

I'd imagine you went through Tyndall at least at some point, yes? Loved my Eagle drivers.

Maxxforce 5 Power Issues

Thanks for the responses. Will definitely have the engine looked at - if I can find an RV International Maxxforce service center. No luck yet as truck centers don't want RV liability. Any ideas for Houston area?? Went through Luke AFB for training back in the 80's. Things have changed since then!
Will update when I find the answer.

I wish I had an answer for you on that one... You might attempt to see if Navistar has a list of service centers?

Update on MaxxForce 5 power issue. Took RV to Fischer's Diesel service in Pasadena, TX and they found a bad injector. Changed fuel filters and did some other non-power related work. The problem that is still being diagnosed is the large lag in power when starting from a standstill. Once unit is moving, power seems to be normal for a 200HP engine, but the lag is an issue. Also, anyone know best way to reach out to all 2009-2010 Avanti owners with MaxxForce engines? Thanks in advance!

Your turbo could be the culprit. Maybe clogged vanes needing to be cleaned up.
