If I knew then what I know now I would have disconnected the car and drove up the thing w/o the toad attached. It was a huff and a puff with the car in tow but we made it.

I just can't believe the isolation one gets from being on a 1,600 foot mountain top! The cell phone just about worked, DirecTV never had a chance, my MiFi air card barely retrieved eMail and my over the air antenna didn't fare too much better.

The park is nice enough and Miss Roxy enjoyed her walks. It gets dark enough up there that they have an astronomical observatory not too far from the park. There's a public parking area further down the road where you can get a good panorama of the mountain side.

The area used to be a health resort in days gone by before the main hotel up there was destroyed by fire. There are even remnants of a rail road line that used to climb up the mountain.
