The new Tiffin Breeze DP with a navistar engine does not come with a exhaust brake. Is this an issue for mountain driving? Can it be an aftermarket add-on?

Wow, that is surprising. I spent three days in Red Bay watching the first "production" model come through the line. Never thought to ask or look for an exhaust. Assumed (and yes, I know what that makes me), where we are today, it would have exhaust brake or something similar as a basic safety feature. Check with Pac-Brake. They'll know whether there is an aftermarket brake.

Thanks. The exhaust brake is a definite no from Tiffin. I don't know if that will be a problem pulling a toad and going down mountains. Very disappointing!

I agree that is disappointing. Can't really get enough safety features.

What is really strange about the exhaust brake question is that a number of rv dealer advertising that they will be selling the Allegro Breeze have the exhaust brake listed as part of their Allegro Breeze packages. Check out some web sites and you will see the variation from Tiffin Motorhomes. I don't know if this is an after market add on or whatever. I agree that this definitely seems to be rather remarkable that Tiffin Motorhomes does not include the exhaust brake. Wonder what their reasoning for the exclusion of this safety feature. This is a good question to present to Bob Tiffin.

Maybe its a Navistar spec not to add one. ? I have a buddy with a 2006 Duramax and there were no after market e brakes avaliable at the time he purchased the truck to tow his 5ver. He was told that the ECM was not compatable with the exaust brake.

I'm sure that there must be a good reason why the exhaust brake is not included. Toward that end, I sent an email to Tiffin Motorhomes and Bob Tiffin to seek some clarification. When I find out, I'll post their reply.

Last year Bob said it would have an exhaust brake. This year when they sent out the original brochure, it listed an exhaust brake. Recently they removed this item from their web site and an e-mail to the company got a response that there was none nor could it be ordered as an option. I believe dealers are advertising an exhaust brake based on the original brochure. I am hoping that "DRIVER" will let us know if this is a navistar issue and if it can be an aftermarket add-on.

I mentioned in an earlier post a few days back that I was sending an email to Tiffin Motorhomes concerning the exhaust brake issue. Bob Tiffin actually replied to my email inquiry. As promised, I will share the info with all of you. Bob said that the Navistar people do not want an exhaust brake included with their engine. The Maxx Force is a V-8 diesel . He went on to say the best brakes are included on the Breeze are bigger because of the air system. This plus he 4-2 gear will provide hold back and slow and stop the vehicle as necessary. I take him at his word, and we are still in the market for the Allegro Breeze.

I have not seen an exhaust brakes on the Workhorse W20D - 4 Winds Serrano for the same reason.

The replies from Bob Tiffin as related by mycoolbeans makes a lot of sense to me. And DriVer's comment concerning the Serrano's is right on.

I reviewed the Breeze's that were listed on several dealers web sites as well as Tiffins' and boy, are they sweet, a tad pricey but, nevertheless, sweet. But, then I'm a Tiffin guy!
