Proud owner of brand new 08 MADP 4523 with 450 Cummins – picked it up last week – but today at highway speed the engine suddenly shut down with no warning. No buzzers or lights; it did not go into limp mode – the engine just suddenly stopped.
After safely pulling to the side of the road and catching our breath, restarted and saw nothing unusual – temp, oil, etc, all normal. Continued driving another 100 miles or so without incident.
Look, we love the new coach – it's a big improvement over our 01 – but this shutdown problem could be disastrous if it happens again at the wrong time/place.
Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

There was a recall for 07 models on a bussman box that had that symptom. Spartan hasn't officially issued the notices for a fix yet.
I'd call Spartan first thing Monday a.m.

Thanks. Yeh, we'll be on the phone early Monday to Newmar High Line service, Spartan and Cummins. My guess is it's a Cummins issue. Will let y;all know.

Welcome Radioman to the Newmar forum and irv2.
Congrats on your new MA many safe miles ahead.
There have been some issues with the Spartans just hope its as simple as Javajelly says.
Your 08 should not have the older issues.
Call Spartan BEFORE you move coach they will walk you thru problems.
You can go to " FIND" above you to find old issues.
We also have a Spartan engine forum in chassis forum section just below here.
Enjoy the forums and do post often.

Thanks for the welcome and advice, 007. I'll call Spartan 1st thing Monday AM. We're in Mobile AL and within 2 miles of a Cummins repair center, too. Mayeb they can run a quick diagnostic download on the engine tomorrow morning.
We'll post back with the outcome.

UPDATE
We went to a Cummins place in Mobile and they downloaded the fault codes. Only thing interesting was an anomaly with the accelerator position sensor. . . which they say may have caused our problem. Maybe.
We then had a multi-party conference call with Newmar, Cummins and Spartan and ended up going to a well qualified Spartan shop in Ft. Walton Beach, Great place, neat as a pin, a 1st class operation.
They worked with Spartan engineering in Charlotte and could not duplicate our sudden engine shutdown or find any reason why it may have occurred. They checked lots of connectors, grounds, etc. and came up with nothing. It was definitely not the rear busman problem, by the way.
So they told us to keep an eye on it and be on our way. We've put a few hundred miles on the coach since with no further problems.
I guess we feel OK about all this but sure wish they'd actually FIXED something. If there's anything further to report we'll check in again.
Meantime we're in love with the new coach. Too bad we bought it just 2 weeks before the end of our 7 month trip. Can't wait to go again!

Radioman,
Was that Tri City Truck on Green Acres Rd. in FWB? If so, I and several folks I know have also been very satisfied with them.

John -
Yes it is Tri City. Very heads-up operation, managed by Ed, a retired USAF Special Ops guy who's one of the most pleasant and knowledgeable techs we've ever dealt with. Sure wish they were closer to where we live - they'd get all our business.
BTW, no more problems with our new coach. Fingers crossed.
