The fuel injector pump is what my manual labels this item. There are several "attachments", one of which the solenoid bracket is connected to. I have some pics and will strive mightily to post somewhere viewable.
The first pic is a view from the front, looking back without the solenoid in place. You can see the actuator arm on the left side.
The second is the same orientation with the solenoid held on place by my gloved hand.
The third is the solenoid attached to it's bracket. Note the empty hole. This is my unknown location. The wire ties are to keep me from losing the bolts.
The fourth view is from the passenger side showing a side view of the work area. Note the cracked out part of the housing just above and to the right of that fuel line. This is where the rear bolt threads into the housing. You'll also see a "stray" washer, or shim over the unknown location. When I bolted the solenoid in place using the two positions that I know are attachment places, I was getting an oil leak from the area of that front hole (unknown). It appeared that the rear attachment point might have been tweaking that housing up a bit and causing the seal to leak. Took the solenoid completely off and the leak disappeared. Put the shim under the bracket and the leak is still absent.
I just need this thing to hold up for one 800-mile trip. After that, she has an appointment with the repair shop for whatever she requires. I can only hope that the entire fuel injector pump doesn't have to be replaced! Since that solenoid bracket has worked loose a couple of times, it wallowed out the bolt holes and they have been enlarged and re-threaded to the next size. Groan, there goes my retirement plans. Looks like I may be paying for this screw-up for the next few months!
Apologies for the length of this post. I am flambustergated to the nth degree!
