A while back when I was having my cracked exhaust manifold replaced Cummins convinced me to have the ECM program updated . Since the update I have put on over 10K miles and lost about 10 to 15 percent on my fuel mileage. I have talked to Cummins but they will not restore my old programming. All I want at this point is to get back to my previous mileage and performance. After reading all the posts on chips I'm not sure they will reprogram the air/fuel curves which is what I believe the problem is. Would a chip solve this problem?

Are you calculating your mileage manually or using ECU report out through some sort of gauge? I ask because my previous coach had a 2000 ISC 350 and when my Silver Leaf was update the reported mileage changed significantly for the worse.

Do you have your ECM # and a # of the old update? They should of printed you out the updates.
I'd upload the whole Cummins update but it is 11MB and in Excell spredsheet, but I can look it up for you.
They are all in an Cummins INCAL DVD.

Thanks Wayne, I also have a Silverleaf system that was updated before the ECM changes. I checked the mileage using both the Silverleaf and the old fashioned odometer and fuel purchased method. They were reasonably close.

A K, I cannot find the ECM number in any of the paperwork but the old ECM code was J91051.11 and the current code is J91051.18. I got that information from the shop that did the ECM update. It was not on any of my paperwork. If you need the ECM number where do I find it, on the engine? The transmission computer is under my dash if that helps. Thanks.

You might just have them reflash again to see if there was an error in the last one.

Cummins did reflash the program and there is no change in fuel mileage or performance. An indicator of future expectations was the quote from the Cummins mechanic who did the original reflash when I picked up the rig, "I don't want any complaining if your fuel mileage goes down." I knew then I had made a big mistake in having the ECM update done.

Thanks PandK. Does anyone know what "No warrantable changes N/A" refers to? Does this refer to the emission changes that were included in this update? When they did the reflash of the last J91051.18 code the tech said they could not undo the emission changes that were part of the ECM update from J91051.11. Bottom line I don't really care if I can buy a chip and it will override the changes that have affected my performance.

I could not find the attached file. It may be a mute point as I don't think Cummins can undo anything they have done. That is why I am really interested in an aftermarket chip if it would solve the problem.

Sorry. My file is in Excel and that is not supported by this site. If you can give me an email I will gladly send you a copy. Legal disclaimer - I believe it came from a Cummins site but can not personally confirm its accuracy.
