2005 Monaco 39ft w/ Cummings 330 I think.

Had a spate of cold weather down to 26 nights. Fuel tank is about 1/2 full. Should I add an anti gel , moisture removal additive and if so Brand? Last fuel added Wa at a truck stop and the engine hasn't been run for 2 weeks or so.

Thanks

Are you actively traveling or parked for a while.

If parked I'd fill the fuel tank to prevent condensation and also provide for more fuel for generator usage if needed.

At 26 F the paraffin wax starts to crystallize causing to fuel to look milky. At ~15F the fuel will start to gel.

The best single thing you can do is get the tank filled ASAP.........always dill up before stopping for a extended time or storage.

What a REALLY pisses me off is no one tells you things like this. When we put some fuel in it we were with a driving instructor. Now I've got an RV with partially moved in stuff all over inside so bringing in the slide outs is going to be a huge hassle, but I'll do it tomorrow if the roads are driveable. I've read nearly the entire coach manual plus numerous other things and nowhere have I seen this. So, no additive will help "deal with" the moisture that's probably now in the tank? D---

Yes, use Power Service or some other brand of conditioner. Most will deal with some water. But to be sure, the less air in the tank, the less condensation, so keep it full when you're parked for extended periods.

You will find that there is a lot "You Were Not Told" as time goes by..........

If you want a peace of mind and you think you might have water, look/order this from Walmart and put it in(Recommended amount) and fill the tank up.........

I was taught at a young age, yo always keep any fuel tank as full as you can all the time...........that way, there is no room for anything else.............
Diesel tanks especially..........

Thank you. I'll get some tomorrow if I can find it. As for not being told, oh well. I'm not trying to shift blame-- it's just that this Motor Home "adventure" has shown me it would have been much better to study up on it thoroughly before starting in

Tank should be kept as full as possible.
What diesel fuel did you get at the last fill up? #1 or #2? #2 is the normal in warm weather then refineries switch over to #1. It has less BTU's so you mileage may go down but the cloud point is lower for colder weather.
If you got #2 then I'd add some additive to it like Power Service 3025 +Cetane Boost Diesel Kleen Fuel Additive to lower the cloud point and up the cetane. Earlier today I was at Wal*Mart and picked up two bottles, each will treat 100 gallons. Cost was less than $15 incl tax.

#1 dsl is virtually impossible to find except in the coldest of the country. Mostly winterized fuel nowadays which has antigel additive.

I fill on every return to the house, buy truck stop fuel (high volume seller) always. I never use conditioner as I go through at least a half tank (100 gal) every month except December, January, and February. I do take the coach out for a 30 minute run each month in those months.

Rick, if you are all set up at a CG look in the yellow pages, some fuel delivery companies will deliver fuel to you.
Just a thought, I would still add the additive.

I wondered about that, but we'll get it filled tomorrow. I did get the power serve additive, put some in and ran the engine for 15 min.
