275 HP in 2000 Bounder DP

My oil pressure gauge has "L" then the letters "NORMAL" then "H". I understand the concept. At start up (even when the engine is already hot) and at any normal start up, the oil pressure reads between the R and M in "Normal". Once I am on the road for 10 miles, the pressure drops to the N in normal. Often up hills or when travelling over 60 mph it dips below the N and gets close, but not quite to the L for low.

I read some other posts and this appears to be "normal"?

I have a 2000 Freightliner chassis, XCS, and some of the gauges show only gross indications. The temperature gauge is poor and I am not sure about the oil pressure sensor. I have not paid much attention to my oil pressure gauge other than to see that I have pressure. I do have Silverleaf VSSpc and read the digital pressure. It ranges from 60 psi when the engine is at higher rpm to 30 psi at idle. I believe the gauge shows a similar swing. Make sure you are using 15W 40 oil and the rest should be ok. I can say that I don't get gauge readings above the Nomal.

when your oil presure is droping, what is your coolant temp. doing ? if it's rising this is reflecting how hard you're pulling your motor. hate those types of gauges.

Just wondering what oil are you runing? The last time it was changed? Filter? How maney miles?

I put in an auto meter mechanical gauge on my 99 /275 hp in a Winn. A couple of fittings and 30'of flexible hose.. 30 at idle 60 going down the road I have no confidence in old electrical gauges.

Agreed. At the very least, remove the electrical oil pressure sender at the engine, replace it with a mechanical oil pressure gauge. That will show you the actual oil pressure. It's probably OK. Then you can decide whether to replace the electrical gauge with a mechanical at the dash, or just knowing the pressure is OK will be good enough.

About the electrical gauge. It could be the ground for the gauge. Sometimes running a separate ground wire to the gauge can solve it.

I just took my Winnebago down the road. At 40 miles an hour 70 pounds of pressure and it registered on the M on the gaged electric gauge.. 30 pounds is between the O And the r On the electric gauge
