Agreed. At the very least, remove the electrical oil pressure sender at the engine, replace it with a mechanical oil pressure gauge. That will show you the actual oil pressure. It's probably OK. Then you can decide whether to replace the electrical gauge with a mechanical at the dash, or just knowing the pressure is OK will be good enough.
About the electrical gauge. It could be the ground for the gauge. Sometimes running a separate ground wire to the gauge can solve it.
