5.9 L lost boost after a stop.

Hi guys, my Son in Law bought my 99' Discovery, with a Banks equipped 5.9 L. He stopped to retie a rope, and when he went to pull out, and the engine barely made it back on the road. He looked down and it showed no boost. He pulled back off the road, shut the engine down, sat for a minute, contemplating his next move and what could be the problem. Restarted the engine, noticed the boost jumped up to 10 lbs. on acceleration, put her in gear, pulled back on the road, and she ran perfect! So the question is, has this happened to anyone else? Have you ever found out what the problem was?
Thanks in advance.
Dale

Was there any black smoke coming out of the exhaust when he had no boost? If there was it was a boost leak. Why it would fix itself is beyond me. If there was no black smoke then there was a fuel problem. It takes fuel to get boost. If that was the case there is a possibility of either he has an intermittent connection possibly to the injection pump or his injection pump may be failing.

I would guess the waste gate stuck open or the exhaust brake stuck closed. Either way sounds like it remedied itself. I would put some pac brake lube on the exhaust brake shaft.
