Rich,
There's a fair chance that your fuel filter(s) are partially blocked. That's where I would start.

If the filter is mounted on the suction side of the lift pump, remove the fuel filter when it shuts down. How full is it? If it is full to the top, it is plugged and needs replacing. If it is low, you have a restriction in the fuel line between the tank pick up and the filter inlet. Also, be certain the air vent hole in the cap is open. If it is plugged, the tank will be in a partial vacuum. It will act like the fuel filter is plugged but not have a full filter when you remove it to check it.

I should have added that it is normal for a suction side filter to not be full when it is removed for some reason other than in this stated problem. Fill a filter with fuel and run the engine for several minutes then remove the filter. The fuel level will have dropped down near the bottom. On some engines, fuel filters use a stand pipe in the center tube to draw the fuel off the bottom of the filter especially needed when the filter is new. Those engines would experience hard starting or no starting after the fuel level dropped and the engine was shut down. On restart, often it was 'no start'.
