I have a 1996 / 97 Cummins 8.3 in a Rexhall Rolls Air. My muffler brackets are "DONE". A direct result of me backing into the driveway and tail pipe hitting ground.

My question is has anyone considered removing the muffler and simply put a piece of pipe (flex) in place of the muffler? If so how load does it get. I know the turbo quietens some of the noise.

Thanks in advance

Yes I have done this on a 96 A C Eagle, It was a little noisy if I wanted to make it that way. Fuel mileage went up,temps stayed cooler, and power went up. Look into the muffler and see if it is restricted like mine. I've had a few friends do this also and agree with the mileage and power. I'm not reccomending this but it works very well for me. I am considerate when in campgrounds as to time of arrival and departure but never had complaints. I think I'm still quieter than some 1 ton pickups.

Just removed my muffler today . It came out quite easily after I got my long breaker bar to remove bolts on clamps. Looked up and seen my air cleaner and thought it would be ideal time to replace since I could now get at it. Had to remove one bolted on (to Frame) bracket but the rest worked OK. Now waiting for new filter ($160.00) and will replace muffler with straight pipe. Hope it's not too load.
