Long time diesel driver here...Duramax and a Yanmar boat engine, first time Cummins owner. I tried the search function, but cannot find what all the Cummins acronyms are. I've found these: ISB, ISX, ISC, and ISL, there are probably more. I'd like to know what the letters mean, but also what the terms mean.

Thanks.

IS = Intelect System (Cummins' proprietary electronic control system)

B = 5.9 or 6.7L displacement

C = 8.3L displacement

L = 8.9L displacement

M = 10.8L displacement

X = 14.9L displacement

No, as each displacement family has a variety of horsepower ratings depending on the engine application, the transmission it's connected to (transmissions often have torque limits that require a ceiling on the engine's rating), emissions standards applicable at time of manufacture, etc.

Engine ratings are here for present Cummins engines, look under "motorhome" and engine for HP ratings. Older engines had different HP ratings... Cummins Every Time - Ratings?
