Another warning light problem

I was cruising down the interstate and needed to make a pass and was at wide open throttle for 5-10 seconds.. shortly thereafter, the dreaded yellow warning light came on and I coasted to a stop. I've changed both fuel filters, coolant filter and topped off all my fluid.

I was able to clear the codes by disconnecting the battery.. but now the code will not reset and the engine just cranks.. broke down still on the side of the highway

While changing the fuel filter with removable lower bowl I found some metal shavings. Thinking my lift pump might have failed..

Any advice?

If you changed the filters after, it's very common to introduce air into the line during filter change. Start your generator and get all batteries up to snuff, then crank the engine in repeated short intervals, giving time to cool down between attempts. Usually you will pump the air through and it will start.

You didn't mention year or exact Cummins engine, wide open throttle usually won't cause any damage, over-heating will.

After a fuel filter change on the ISC, I will turn the key to Run (not Start) for a minute and let the fuel pump run to push air through and back to the tank. Repeat four or five times, then start. The repetition is because the pump times out.

Mobile service tech condemned the caps injection pump. Later I realized an old friend works for cummins and is stopping by this morning. The caps pump is a cummins only part and $3,500 not installed
