I'm going to wait until I've gone 10,000 miles with my rig to break in the engine normally, but am seriously considering chipping my engine. Has anyone here done it? I'm looking for life experience, not what the manufacturers boast

Yep, it is done. Take read here and register so you can converse with the experts. . . . 6.7L Engine and Transmissions (2007.5+) - TDR Roundtable ________ The Smarty is very popular, there are several others, but it is not a chip, it is a programmable controller.

If your going to add power to your vehicle make sure to take care of the weak spots first thing...

* Transmission
* Fuel System (Lift Pump)
* Gauges (Boost, EGT, Trans Temp)

Protect your investment before pumping up the power to it...

I have added a Smarty with the full delete package on my 08, Dodge Meg Cab. I am using the CaTCHER level 3 on the Smarty, this adds a modest amount of power 60 HP at the rear wheels. This is from the Smarty site about his software package.
"The horsepower settings. except #0, all other software have a
modified "Torque management" ( TQM ). The throttle response
is greatly improved but is set to a save limit. With "Save" I mean
save for your tranny and rest of the driveline."

The 68RFE Auto is a much improved transmission over the other auto's that were offered in the past. I have towed with the Smarty installed for now over 20,000 miles and have had no issues with my auto.

The fuel system on the newer 6.7L engines have not had any issues with the lift pump in the tank or the CP3. This system is not like the older model of Dodge's and the fuel lift problems. I am also a member of Turbo Diesel Register, and have been a member since Nov of 07. So I am very familiar with the 6.7 L Cummins and it's features.

That is not to say if you are using the CaTCHER level 7 or higher that you do not need to address the fuel issue. But this will also take large injectors too.

What about the warranty? If you chip a Duramax, it may void the warranty...not worth it to me.

Maybe with a Dmax you need to worry. But a CUMMINS they are built to last.

The only issues I had were with the emission equipment such as sensors and the like. Since I have a programmer I have had no issues with the engine. I have not been back to the dealer in two years.
I do my own servicing and do a better job then the dealers did. Dealers would not grease the drive shafts and tie-rod ends. I change my own engine oil and filter every 5K with an oil sample taken and sent in for analysis. Both fuel filters are changed every 10K.

I have the Banks 6 Gun system on my Cummins. Night and Day difference. When I installed the Banks on my first Cummins vehicle, I had a fuel pump go out while under warranty and the dealer voided the warranty on it because I had the Banks. My current vehicle I also had a fuel pump go out at 3000 miles and the warranty was not voided, even though I did have the Banks system installed on that one as well. On my system I have to make sure the Banks system is turned down if towing or it could cause issues. (I forgot tot turn it down once and a dash code came on for high rail pressure)

I also installed an ATS trans command system and upgraded my torque converter.

The Smarties are software specific, and the last time I checked, Marco had no intention of writing a program for RV software. Not enough money in it.
