I am buying a 2006 Travel Supreme with a 400 hp Cummings ISL.

I know nothing about diesels and would like to read up on some basics in the next few days. I found an excellent manual for the Allison and would like the same for the Cummings.

Is anyone aware of an on-line operating manual (free or purchased) that describes the basics of checking the oil, checking fuel filters, proper oil pressure, temperature, do's and don't about running them, basic troubleshooting on the road?

Thanks,
Tom

Cummins has an operator manual for the ISL engine - you can order it from Cummins online or through a Cummins dealer. It's not great, but it covers the basics of engine operation.

Location and type of of filters and that sort of thing is actually established by the chassis builder rather than the engine builder, so manuals from the chassis would be helpful too. Is it Spartan or Freightliner? Freightliner has a "Know Your Chassis" document on their website that is good.
